The Sound of Family

The Sound of Family tells the untold story of how the fall of the Wall created the techno scene in a newly unified Berlin. In a city ravaged by political oppression and segregation – reunification happened on the dance floor.

There are few cultural phenomenons that defy time. The creation of the Berlin club scene is one. A ten year span between 1985 and 1995 that changed the world. From the rubble of The Berlin Wall came one of the most significant and enduring cultural movements of the past century.

This limited series digs deep into the rich history and powerful human moments that led to the end of the cold war, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dramatic freedoms suddenly available to Berlin’s youth. Squat parties, illegal warehouse raves, the ecstasy explosion, the LGBT+ movement, the horrors of the AIDS epidemic and of course…the music; all framed around the central idea that a powerful, youth driven force could unify a city ravaged by decades of political strife and segregation.

Limited series.
